01

Start with the Dallas residential resource page

The City of Dallas directs residential permitting users to DallasNow and provides remodeling resources including a remodel checklist and a general repair scope form. Use the current city page to locate the relevant material, rather than relying on an old downloaded checklist. The city and the responsible project professionals must confirm what applies to the actual address and proposed work.

02

Make the proposed change understandable

Prepare an existing-versus-proposed description for each affected room. Explain what stays in place, what is removed and what might move. Separate cosmetic preferences from wall, utility or layout changes. If you do not yet know whether a change is feasible, identify it as a question. This gives the person assessing the project a clearer starting point than a broad description such as complete remodel or new kitchen.

03

Build a document folder with clear versions

Gather photographs, available plans and any records of previous work that you are entitled to share. Give each proposed plan a date and keep superseded versions separate. Record questions raised during review, who will answer them and which document will change. This folder is a planning aid; it is not a substitute for the drawings or professional input that your application may require.

04

Assign responsibility before scheduling

Ask who will check requirements, prepare submissions, respond to questions and coordinate any applicable inspections. Record those responsibilities in the project discussion and clarify whether related costs are included or separate. An online project inquiry does not obtain approval or authorize construction. Keep the distinction between a desired start date and a date supported by the completed prerequisites.

05

Bring a focused question list

A useful meeting ends with fewer unknowns. For each proposed change, ask what information is missing, who can establish it and which decision depends on the answer. If you adjust the design afterward, revisit the affected requirements instead of assuming the earlier discussion still covers the new scope. Submit your ZIP code and a short project description to New Horizons to begin the scope conversation.
