01

Map the conditions across the house

List the rooms included and how each is used. Note exterior entrances, pet activity, frequent spills, direct sunlight and the furniture that will move across the surface. A single continuous appearance can be appealing, but every selected product must be evaluated for the conditions where it will be installed. Record the exact product line, not just a broad label such as vinyl, wood or tile, when requesting suitability and care information.

02

Compare preparation alongside the finish

Ask how the existing surface, substrate condition and moisture concerns will be assessed. Product price alone does not describe the installation scope. Removal, disposal, surface preparation and transitions may change the comparison between options. If preparation cannot be established until the old floor is removed, ask how that uncertainty is handled in the proposal. A new covering should not be treated as a diagnosis or remedy for an unexplained underlying condition.

03

Look closely at the interfaces

Flooring meets doors, cabinets, stairs, baseboards and adjacent materials. Ask where finished heights may differ and which details need a transition. Discuss the sequence with cabinetry and other improvements instead of assuming the floor always goes first or last. Manufacturer instructions and the chosen installation system matter. Mark those interfaces on a sketch so they remain part of the review even when different rooms are completed at different times.

04

Take samples beyond the showroom

Place shortlisted samples beside existing finishes under daytime and evening light. Compare pattern variation and the scale of individual pieces, and ask to see representative product imagery beyond a small swatch. Review cleaning instructions, maintenance expectations and warranty conditions for the actual selection. Write down tradeoffs you can live with rather than seeking an all-purpose best material. Your household routines should inform that decision as much as appearance.

05

Plan the practical handover

Identify furniture storage, access routes and the person moving appliances or heavy items. Ask when the installed floor can be used and what protection is appropriate while other work continues. Keep the product record and care guidance after completion, along with any spare material supplied. If matching across later phases matters, discuss procurement and storage early without assuming the same batch or product will remain available.
